Queen’s Road
“The trouble with living near a road is just that”.
A good brief. The answer? Regain privacy through planting.
With the broken drive taken up, and butchered Lleylandii worthy of a bad hair joke taken down, the question of that road could begin.
The answer was three layers of planting; clipped Taxus connecting the horizontal transition to the vertical, a back drop of evergreen Jasmin to screen and add scent, and a row of beautiful pleached Parrotia persica trees to complete the trinity.
Of course cars must be parked and space allocated thus, so planting beds embrace the boundary where Geum ‘Prinses Juliana’ entertains Eurybia, Veronicastrum, and Polypodium all interlaced with Sesleria. Seasonal bulbs act as occassional guests.
The result: privacy simply but effectively embraced.
